Murakami Chair by Rochus Jacob

Hello everyone, it’s me Jenn back to share this cool product with you. For that person in your family that loves to read and rock this is an amazing concept for a chair. The lighting fixture is attached to the chair and as you rock, the energy is collected transferred and used by the lamp source. What an ingenious way to reduce our energy consumption!!! The energy that you use to rock the chair is transferred directly to the lamp. The motion that you create gives it, its power. How cool is that! Below is the creators vision for the chair, this is just spot on!

‘I was looking for opportunities to generate energy through activities we naturally do. The final result is a rocking chair that enables the user to experience production and consumption of electricity in a gentle and rewarding way. An abstract process becomes tangible and eventually cultivates natural awareness. Complexity is covered by simplicity. Advanced nano-dynamo technology which is built in to the skids of the chair and more efficient light sources such as the newly developed OLED generation makes it possible to build a rocking chair with a reading lamp running on electricity generated from the rocking motion. During daylight the energy gets stored in a battery pack. The construction of the flat and bendable organic light emitting diodes allows new form factors such as using the traditional shape of a lamp but instead of having a light bulb the lampshade himself turns out to be the light source. To have a drastic reduction of consumption the big challenge will be to make consuming less feel like getting more.’ -Rochus Jacob,

Turnbull Griffin Halesloop Architects

schubLaden

Found this website while I was looking for furniture and thought this company made some beautiful pieces. Very rustic and custom as they are built from recycled drawers. They have options for custom designs any an enormous amount of options for many different sizes or spaces. An exciting drawl to the line is that every piece is different, signed and numbered.
The word schubLaden means drawer in German, which is regretfully where the company is located. In the heart of Berlin, Germany-Kreuzberg´s Graefedistrict to be exact, a hip and growing part of town.
I love this idea of taking something old and making it new again. We should all try our best to repurpose thing, make good use of what we have before we consume more. Why not, right! I think that we all could do this same concept with things at home. All you have to do to make the old new is a coat of paint or an inventive change of use.

The hotel Poseidon

Hey everyone back again to tell you about this amazing getaway that I found, over on the island of Fiji. The hotel Poseidon that tucked away there is an amazing combination of beach side relaxation and undersea adventure.  You have a choice of a beautiful open cabana type room, or a room under the sea.  The way Bruce Jones designed this underwater hotel stemmed from his 19 years in the civil submarine business. He has taken that knowledge, and with the support of many, created an ingenious space for people to enjoy.  The sense of being the one in the fish tank within this space makes it fun for all.
The rooms couldn’t have been more masterfully constructed.  The elevation of the bathing area and its placement deep in the space allows you to maintain privacy and still enjoy the view as you soak. The partial partitions that create a seating area toward the front of the space give you your own private viewing area.  While the bedroom area gives you a place to partially escape from the view if you so choose.   The selection of multiple curvilinear elements adds to the sense of being in a bubble, and does a good job reinforcing their message.

Hobbit Homes for all

I wanted to share with you all this amazing home that was constructed in Wales.  It was constructed by Simons Dale with the assistance of his Father in law, family, friends, and some small day labors. The home was built into the hillside creating a cabin like feel on the interior and a hobbit home aesthetic on the exterior. Due to the reduction/depletion of labor cost, Simons Dale constructed his home for 3000 pounds and it took him only four months to complete the work.  The materials that were used are all of local origin, and some of the materials that were utilized were harvested on the property itself, accruing no cost at all! Because of the natural processes used for material gathering, this home is very environmentally friendly, with a very low impact or foot print on the environment. The roof surface that you can see in the exterior picture shows you that the roof is constructed of earth.  This is a very energy efficient way of conserving light and heat.  Providing natural insulation to the interior space, this roof system with helps with decreasing any HVAC usage, and helps maintain the homes natural heat absorption.
Mr. Dale, his wife, and their two daughters reside in the home. The floor plan is very simple but the structure itself is very unusual and irregular.
